This designated group of technicians is available for consultation, training, and installations. This group also manages WVU's Project320 Media Distribution System, distributing multimedia technology to various classrooms throughout campus. The design of this system is simple: A single room houses a variety of equipment ranging from VCR's to computers. This room, better known as the "Headend," is then connected to classrooms throughout campus. From these classrooms, instructors can use remote control to operate the equipment in the headend.
This system is similar to a cable system in that all the classrooms are connected to a central location. However, the added advantage is that instructors can control the media they are using. In other words, instructors are able to stop, start, rewind, fast forward, play, etc. whatever equipment they are using at their convenience- all from remote control. The 320 system also gives instructors the option of using multiple forms of media during each scheduled event.
