Sid MorrisonAssociate Provost for Information Technology and
Chief Information Officer for West Virginia University
Sid has been employed by WVU for the past 16 years. During his tenure he has progressed steadily through computer consulting and managerial positions, serving as director of OIT Customer and Technical Support Services, supervising the Help Desk, consulting, training, computer sales, student labs, Assistive Technologies and Microcomputer Repair. He was also the acting Director of Networking where he was responsible for all day-to-day operations of the campus-wide administrative network.
In his current role as Associate Provost, Sid supervises all OIT functions including Customer Support Services and the Instructional Technology Resource Center. He also oversees all information technology functions at WVU’s branch campus, Potomac State College, located in Keyser, WV.
Sid holds a BS and MS degree from The Pennsylvania State University and was an adjunct faculty member for several years in the Lane School of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at WVU. Mr. Morrison served in the Armed Forces for 21 years, retiring from the Air Force as a captain. During his final years as an officer, he served as a systems analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and as the commander of the joint service Computer Sciences School, located in Quantico, Virginia.
Amy BakerChief Technology Officer
Amy Baker is a longstanding member of West Virginia University and the Office of Information Technology, beginning her OIT career as a student employee. While completing her undergraduate degree, Amy worked as an intern in Instructional Technology and the OIT Resource Center. In 1999 Amy joined the WVU staff as an Information Technology Consultant, dealing with academic support and training. Through a series of promotions, Amy rose to her current position as Chief Technology Officer, overseeing all technical training and research support.
The responsibilities of technology support services to the WVU community covers a wide range including hands-on, lecture, and web-based training, technical standards coordination, support for electronic thesis and dissertation systems, and consulting with the project management office.
Along with her duties for OIT, Amy taught for the WVU Computer Science Department as an adjunct for two years. She is a member of ACM and EDUCASE.
Tim MartonDirector, Information Systems
Upon joining West Virginia University in 1999, Tim Marton had accumulated more than 20 years of hands-on management experience encompassing all business within the private sector as well as within the state, local and federal government. His last position was as Chief Information Officer with the West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs and was responsible for the direction and coordination of the agency’s entire information management support services.
In his current role as Director of Information Systems, Tim oversees the support of all central administrative and student systems for the University. Information Systems (IS) provides this support though the use of four service groups: Administrative Systems Development, Student Systems Development, Database Administration, and Systems & Operations. These groups are responsible for providing technical application support to the administrative information systems (MAP), the student information systems such as STAR and MIX and managing, securing, and monitoring these data systems on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis.
Tim Marton is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University where he studied Physics and Astronomy under a NSF Fellowship.
Cara PietrowskiDirector, Support Services
Cara joined West Virginia University in 1993 as a computing services consultant. As the University grew, so did the need for a comprehensive support center. Cara was appointed as the manager of the technology Help Desk and was instrumental in setting up the new program. Today, as Director of Support Services, Cara continues to head the support operations for the University.
Day-to-day technical operations such as central computing student labs, high-tech classrooms, test, quiz, survey, and faculty evaluations are all handled by OIT Support Services. In conjunction with Student Affairs, Cara and her team are able to provide technical support to students including hardware repairs and new computer purchasing consultation.
Prior to her time at WVU, Cara worked in the private sector, owning and operating a computer sales business, selling to both institutions of higher education and K-12 programs. Cara attended Salem College, studying computer science.
Tim WilliamsDirector, Network Operations & Telecommunications
During his 25 years at WVU, Tim Williams has held a variety of administrative positions. Before becoming director in 1996, Tim oversaw customer support, the LAN services of OIT, and developed collaborative partnerships between the WVU Office of Information Technology and the University’s Morgantown and regional campuses.
Telecommunications and network operations are responsible for the voice and data systems on all of West Virginia University’s campuses. The unit also provides design and engineering for cable infrastructure work, upgrades all voice systems, and designs and manages the campus high speed network backbone and connectivity to the Internet and Internet 2.
